Using flowers to cover bathroom odours

tulip flowersA poorly ventilated bathroom is a nightmare. Short of massive renovations, it is impossible to fix this problem. Fortunately, there are ways to cover up bathroom odours cheaply and effectively. You may be surprised to learn that the answer is tulips. That’s right- flowers! I am not talking about air fresheners laced with an artificial floral scent. Sprays and diffusers are a poor imitation of the real thing, and lack many of the benefits of living flowers.

You have two choices when it comes to eliminating bathroom smells using flowers. You can either have a bunch of freshly cut flowers in your bathroom, or you can actually use a planter box for best effect.

Trees are widely known for their carbon dioxide absorbing effects, and plants are no different. A little strategically placed planter box filled with seasonal flowering bulbs will draw CO2 from the air, and actually make your bathroom air fresher rather than simply covering smells with a flower scent.

I have done much research on this topic, and have found that tulips are simply the best flower for minimising the effects of a poorly ventilated bathroom. My daughter has terrible allergies to most flowers, so this has limited the breadth of my experimentation. There may be even more options for bathroom plants which are effective as well as easy to cultivate.

I also gave daffodils a try; they eliminated odours quite well too. I only say that tulips are my first preference because I find them to be a prettier flower.

By applying my green thumb to the great indoors, I have alleviated the need to completely gut my bathroom to fix the airflow issue. Cheap, easy, and effective- I am very pleased with my creative use of a planter box to deal with that great unspoken issue.
