Just my luck. I scored a decent house in a good area and there had to be something wrong with it! Everyone thinks I’m a curmudgeon but if they could take a stroll in my shoes for a day they’d see just how cursed I am. Thanks to my pathetic luck, I recently had to get window replacements. Melbourne generally has crappy weather but this summer has been brutal. Anyway, here’s how I ended up forking out extra cash right after settling on a new place.
Between about 6-8pm in the evening, the sun starts to set and strikes directly on the window of my bedroom. The room heats up something hellish. Even if you could tolerate the sweltering temperature, the glare from the window blinds you and it’s very uncomfortable. The only thing you can really do is pull the blind down completely, which defeats the point of having a window. Worst of all, the room stores the heat and even with the window open all night it still doesn’t cool down. I ended up having to call the window repairs company in Melbourne to find a solution.
What they told me is that I had an aluminium window frame, which is easy to maintain but acts as a heat conductor. They suggested that the room would be cooler if I got a timber window replacement. Melbourne weather can fluctuate from very hot to very cold, so timber windows conduct the elements a lot less than aluminium. The only this is that I’m going to have to clean the windows more often.
I had no choice but to get the window replacement even though I was reluctant to spend money after my recent move. The whole ordeal turned out to be a lose-lose situation because even though my room is going to be a bit cooler now, I have to put twice as much effort in to maintain the windows. My luck … sucks.
