I do a lot of gazing during exam time. Gazing out of buses, gazing from my desk out the window. This time, while gazing out of my window, I discovered that I’ve never actually looked at the window itself. The wood was very old and was looking a bit gnarly, so I decided to get them replaced with newer ones. I called up the company who do timber windows around Melbourne and they came around to help.
I know what you’re thinking — don’t even say it! You were about to call me the P word weren’t you? Well, no, I’m not a procrastinator. Just because it was pressing for me to get the windows fixed during exam time doesn’t mean that I’m putting off my studies. You may find it hard to believe but I’m actually very diligent and a well disciplined pupil. Put me in a dojo and I’d kick the Karate Kid’s face.
Anyway, when the windows guy came over he surprised me firstly by being on time and secondly by offering me so many options. He said I could get timber which looks classic but the aluminium ones are easier to clean. He laid out a booklet with all the different options. They were all so beautiful that it took me ages to decide. I ended up opting for the aluminium windows. In Melbourne, there’s a lot of wind and it gets quite dusty, so it was purely a matter of convenience.
When I was done, I invited the repairs guy to stay for a coffee because he was looking a bit tired but he had to get on his way. Smart move. Then I had a coffee by myself in preparation for getting back into my work. I looked over at my university books lying on my desk, calling me back.
