I’ve just inherited my grandmother’s house. She was a lovely person, she had the best, kindest heart, but towards the end of her life I think she was starting to go senile. I think she was losing her senses as well, she was definitely going blind and deaf, so I imagine her senses of smell and taste were diminishing too. She could no longer see the dirt and filth that was filling her house. When she tried to clean, it was all skewed. She’d try to wipe the dust off the bench and leave huge streaks of it which she wouldn’t be able to perceive with her diminishing eyesight. She could no longer see coffee and tea stains on the carpet, and food which she had dropped onto furniture. Since inheriting her house and all her possessions, although I’m eternally grateful, I now have to look into cleaners for stain removal in Melbourne.
The couches are so dirty but I really want to keep them because they’re quite beautiful. They’re old and with a bit of restoration would fetch a fair amount possibly at antique auction sales. Not that I would think about selling them at all, I’m going to keep them because they look lovely. I’m going to have to get the upholstery cleaned on the couches. I tried getting the food stains out but I couldn’t. What’s worse is that they smell like old people, you know that musty moth-balls kind of smell. Thankfully the cleaners can also do odour removal. Melbourne cleaners can do an absolutely amazing job. They can restore furniture to the point where it looks new again.
All of this has got me thinking that when I’m old, I don’t want to be unwittingly living in my own filth. So I reckon I’m going to hire a cleaner to come around regularly and do it for me. The thing about old people is that they insist they’re fine and that they’re not going senile.
